Lucy surveys the site of her future water garden. Poulsbo averages 56 inches of rain per year so the county requires people building new homes to include a storm water retention cell, or water garden, in their site plan. It is a big hole with rocks that fills up with water when it rains and allows the water to seep back into the earth at an appropriate location, rather than flooding and eroding the property. A third of my property is a ravine and I assumed the ravine would serve that function but I was mistaken. To keep the stormwater runoff from eroding the slope of the ravine I will need two water gardens. Isn’t Lucy a lucky duck?
