January 20, 2022: Heated patio furniture

I moved to the PNW in search of clean air, and as I built my house I imagined that I would spend a good portion of each day on my back porch, eating breakfast, reading, watching the sunset, and generally getting healthier. But for more than half the year it is too cold and too wet to do that comfortably. In addition, damp cushions on patio furniture made me worry about mold. So last May I ordered heated patio furniture that does not require cushions, and it was finally delivered a few days ago. This is Galanter & Jones’ economy line, which is molded stone and resin with an electrical grid inside. Although some chemically sensitive people have trouble breathing around items made with resin I generally do not, so I bought these without testing a sample first. I was worried that the heat would create fumes from the sealant that bothered me, but as it turned out there is no detectible odor — a rare lucky gamble!
