Here are the several books I found most helpful in deciding how to build my house.
Baker-Laporte, Paula, et al. (2022) “Prescriptions for a Healthy House: A Practical Guide for Architects, Builders and Homeowners (4th Edition).” BLB Publications.
Be sure to purchase the most recent edition. This is an expensive book, but it is extremely helpful in communicating with architects and contractors. The primary author is a chemically sensitive architect, and the format of the book tracks the format of a standard building contract, using terms understood by people in the construction industry. I gave copies to my architect and project manager.
Rea, William J. (2002) “Optimum Environments for Optimum Health and Creativity: Designing and Building a Healthy Home or Office.” American Environmental Health Foundation.
This book is dated but still has useful information. It was written by Dr. William Rea, the founder of the Environmental Health Center in Dallas, TX.
Upton, Steve and Christa. (2016) “Building a House for Multiple Chemical Sensitivity: A Mold-Resistant, Low-Tox Home.” CreateSpace Independent Publishing Platform.
The authors built their home on a tight budget, without an architect.
