My house is coming to life! The septic system has been programmed and is running. The hydronic floor is turned on and is generating a silent, even heat. Most of the light fixtures have been installed, and the final coat of plaster is drying.
When researching materials for the house I initially chose lime plaster because it is so durable. But when I obtained a sample I found the slight scent very disagreeable; my entire body clenched. Instead I used a clay plaster with no colorant, which had the opposite effect. I find the earthy scent and texture very relaxing.
All of the window sills are Pental Quartz stone and resin slabs that will match the kitchen counter. In California my cats shredded the wooden window wills and I could not tolerate the wood stains and sealants needed to repair the damage. There are probably wood stains and sealants available now that I could handle but I don’t want to spend my retirement on tasks like that. Instead I chose cat proof window sills.
