November 20, 2019: Plumbing

I have a front entry with house numbers, which I believe means the USPS will now deliver packages to my door. And I have a roof, which somewhat annoyingly shifts from medium grey to white as the sun moves across the yard. Inside I have metal studs with electrical connections and copper plumbing. Drywall is next!

I opted for copper pipes instead of PEX (cross-linked polyethylene) tubing, both running from the well to the house and inside the house. There are problems with both copper and PEX plumbing but copper has been used for decades and I am familiar with the problems because I had copper plumbing in my house in California. PEX is newer and a less expensive, popular choice but the most recent articles suggest there are more chemicals leaching from it than initially thought. If you are interested in this issue it is discussed at both of the links below. Corrine Segura, the Building Biologist who maintains mychemicalfreehouse.net, chose PEX. The Environmental Working Group (EWG.org) thought copper was the better choice.
