October 31, 2016: Poulsbo will be my new home

I take Lucy for a walk each day and she is enthusiastic about exploring this area. When I was in Hansville I considered letting her visit with the ducks on the shore. But then I remembered why she’s a pet. I found Lucy 16+ years ago with her wing dragging on the ground. When her wing healed it still didn’t work and she couldn’t fly. Ducks deal with disability in their flock by pecking the disabled duck to death, to avoid attracting the attention of predators, which could endanger the entire flock. When the vet said she should be a pet how could I not take her in? I know exactly how it feels to have a medical problem that your fellow creatures see as a legitimate reason to peck at you and exclude you from their company. But I think Lucy and I could both be safe and happy here in Poulsbo.
